Abstract

The paper analyses selected testaments from Lovran held in the State Archives in Rijeka (HR-DARI-41) from a historical legal perspective. More precisely, it analyses twelve testaments from the second half of the 18th century drafted in Italian by notaries Anton Tomičić and Bartol Negovetić. The legal form of the testaments is analysed in the context of the Early Modern European ius commune of that time. Additionally, the structural and substantive
characteristics of the wills are analysed. The terminology and notarial formulas used in these testaments are compared with the previously published and transcribed testaments in Croatian drafted by the same notaries.
