Abstract

Dog's-tooth-violet (Erythronium dens-canis L.) is a widespread spring species whose tepala are pink in most populations in Croatia, while white-flowering variants are usually rare and individual. Since the mid-19th century, there have been records of white-flowering populations in the Jagodnjak valley on Požeška Gora, and the unusual color was attributed to the pedological and geological factors. During the spring of 2025, intensive mapping of populations on that hill was conducted with the aim of determining the distribution of the white and pink variants, identifying their contact zone, and comparing flower color with the geological substrate.
