Abstract

Analyses of the Croatian medieval narrative prose should encompass the phenomenon of its orality, i.e. the fact that a larger number of addressees heard texts rather than read them. Orality does not pertain only to folklore, but also to the performance of texts in direct communication with an
audience. The Old Testament apocryphal text Vision of Abraham contains signals of performability which unites possibilities for telling and showing of the content and edification of the audience. The phenomenon of orality of
medieval narrative texts is reflected in the notion of reading as performance, which includes text, edification and direct communication.
