Abstract

Receiving news of having cancer is a traumatic event that can trigger a number of psychological responses in patients. During the adaptation process, considerable psychosocial distress begins to interfere with the patient's daily life. A holistic approach in both health and illness is important because each person is a unique and inseparable biological, psychological and social being. Psycho-oncology was developed for this reason, which in clinical psychiatry includes diagnostics, therapeutics, education and research from the psychiatrist in the oncology team.
