Abstract
In order for parents to competently fulfil their role, their awareness of child-rearing practices is essential. The social community should provide them with pedagogical education, taking into account the well-being of the entire community. The aim of the study presented in this paper was to examine the opinions of parents of pupils from 1st to 4th grade of primary school (N=112) regarding the support that the local community provides to families in raising children, as well as the relationship between the family and the local community in the context of child upbringing. The quantitative analysis indicates that parents demonstrate a relatively low level of pedagogical competence in child rearing. Only half of the parents are aware that child upbringing influences various aspects of a child’s life, thereby indirectly affecting the broader social community. A statistically significant association was found between parents’ attitudes toward parenting schools and their level of education. Parents with higher levels of education are more likely to perceive parenting schools as necessary and believe they should be provided within the local community. The qualitative analysis of parents’ responses offers deeper insight into their expectations from the social community.
