Abstract

The quadrille is a social dance that combines movement, music, spatial organisation, and cooperation among dancers. It developed at the turn of the nineteenth century and is characterised by four couples arranged in a square formation. This paper examines the historical development, dance and musical structure, as well as kinesiological value of the quadrille by comparing the French, Trogir and graduation quadrilles.
