Abstract

The Church of St. Roch was built and furnished by the residents of Draguć, Istria, as a votive offering to ward off the plague around the beginning of the sixteenth century. The local master Anton from nearby Kašćerga decorated its interior in two campaigns. Combining the late Gothic heritage with new early Renaissance elements, he created a cycle of clear and easily understandable religious scenes, in keeping with the local painting tradition and popular piety.
