Abstract

This paper aims to give a thorough account of the founding, development, and changes of the former Capuchin monastery and church on Gradec based on an analysis of prior research, archival sources, and visual materials. The mechanisms behind the Capuchins’ presence on Gradec and the support given by secular and ecclesiastical authorities in the founding and development of their monastery are given special emphasis. The typological characterization of the Capuchin church and monastery is analyzed through comparative analysis, as is their role in shaping the urban space of the southwestern part of Gradec.
