Abstract
This paper presents the analysis and design optimization of a pipeline system for microplastic sampling
in drinking water supply system. Microplastics represent a significant environmental concern due to
their widespread presence and potential impact on ecosystems and human health, which necessitates
the development of reliable sampling systems. The aim of this study was to develop a technically
efficient system that ensures sample representativeness while minimizing contamination and particle
loss. The methodology was based on an iterative development of multiple pipe fitting prototypes,
considering key design requirements such as material chemical inertness, stable flow conditions,
system tightness, and ease of maintenance. Special emphasis was placed on filtration integration
and flow control. The final design includes an optimized pipeline system with an integrated bypass
configuration and safety valves, enabling continuous operation without interrupting the sampling
process. The results demonstrate improved functionality, increased operational flexibility, and reduced
contamination risk compared to earlier prototypes. The proposed system provides a reliable foundation
for both laboratory and field applications, as well as for further development of microplastic sampling
technologies.
