Abstract
Apart from its religious and theological significance, the idea of interreligious dialogue has an important role in the process of building and developing the communities characterized by religious and national plurality, such as the former Yugoslav society. This paper, using the historical method, text analysis, and interview, aims to investigate the presence of the idea of interreligious dialogue in the tradition of Bosnian and Herzegovinian Muslims in the second half of the 20th century by analysing the publications of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1961 to 1991. The first section of the paper presents the Muslim perspective of interreligious dialogue. What is observed in the texts analysed is the effort of the Muslim scholars to deconstruct certain prejudices regarding the attitude of Muslims to the members of other religious traditions, using the authentic religious texts. In the second section, the authors, using the analysed texts, point to the importance of scientific interreligious conferences with the participation of the representatives of the Islamic Community. In the final section, the authors emphasize the practical realization of the phenomenon of interreligious dialogue, i.e., the dialogue of coexistence, presented through the examples of good interpersonal relationships between Muslims and Christians that is through the encounters and joint activities of religious officials of different religious communities.
