Abstract

Radiology technologists play a key role in producing radiographic images. The quality of the performed examination depends on proper patient preparation, technical execution and effective communication. Conventional radiography is one of the most commonly used diagnostic methods in everyday clinical practice, and its effectiveness also depends on patients suffering from psychiatric disorders, who present a particular challenge. Such patients may exhibit various forms of behavior, including anxiety, disorientation, reduced ability to understand instructions or agression, which can affect the performance of diagnostic procedures as well as the quality of radiographic images. In such situations, communication skills, patience, and the ability to assess the situation are essential. The specific nature of working with psychiatric patients requires an individualised approach, adaptation of standard protocols and often collaboration with other healthcare professionals. In these situations, it is necessary to ensure the safety of both the patient and healthcare staff, while respecting ethical principles and the patient’s dignity. The main goal of this paper is to present specific aspects of radiologic technologists’ work with psychiatric patients in conventional radiography, based on personal professional experience in everyday practice.
