Abstract

The principal aim of this conversational analysis of Big Brother and Grande Fratello participants is the comparison of semantic and pragmatic elements of communication habits in spontaneous conversation of young Croats and Italians. The article analyses strategies and techniques of communication in order to draw attention to empirically proven sociotypes, which will deny conventional stereotypes. Language study of a specific discourse in the previously mentioned social interaction includes the use of deictic signs and structure of speech acts for linking language and extralinguistic context in order to reveal paralinguistic differences and similarities between the two cultures. In the given sociolinguistic context, results of comparisons do not indicate significant differences.
