Abstract

During the 6th year of the archaeological researching in Asseria systematic stone conservation began over the site, as signs of erosion and damage occurred within the structure of the monumental wall from the 1st c. BC, as well as the late-Antiquity defence walls in front of it, from the end of the 6th c. and the beginning of the 7th c.
Protective conservation works started in the middle of September and were ended in the middle of November 2003. The most endangered parts of the walls and structures added to them, were encompassed. In this starting conservation campaign the following parts of the walls in Asseria were restored: western half of the late-Antiquity wall about 37 m, northern and western part of the 1st late Republican fortress tower, monumental wall at the north-east of the Traian’s gate together with the added late-Antiquity buttresses, and late-Antiquity grave, and another late Republican fortress tower.
