Abstract

Body temperature is controlled by complex
thermoregulatory mechanisms which maintain core body
temperature within 0, 5 o C. Lowering rectal temperature
below 32o C significantly decreases level of human body
performance. Due to the lack of knowledge about first
symptoms and usually poor communication with other
competitors, athletes are prone to hypothermia and its
complications. Insufficient protection from cold
combined with poor physical and psychological fitness
can further endanger athletes' health. This paper presents
measures of prevention of hypothermia and warming-up
procedures with special attention paid to clothing in cold
conditions.
