Abstract

The topic of this paper is a review of the rights which all states, whether coastal or land-locked enjoy in the exclusive economic zone, the freedoms of navigation and overflight and of the laying of submarine cables and pipelines, and other internationally lawful uses of the sea related to these freedoms, such as those associated with the operation of ships, aircraft and submarine cables and pipelines.
The author analyzes the provisions of the 1982 UN Law of the Sea Convention (especially article 58 which is the complement of article 56) and problems of their different interpretations in the practice of states. An analysis of these provisions is made in the light of their future application in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Croatia.
