THE LEXIS OF THE ISLAND OF IST

Abstract

This paper presents the basic characteristics of the speech of the island of Ist, phonological, morphological, syntactic, and especially lexical. It has been concluded that it is the speech of the Middle Chakavian (Ikavian-Ekavian) dialect in which north-west Chakavian characteristics prevail, with the significant amount of south-east Chakavian characteristics.
