Abstract

This work presents a resume of the influences which the rationalists' and empiricists' original ideas had on the development of the geographic thought from the 19th century to our days. Three periods in which empiricism, or rationalism became prominent in the geographic concept, have been particularly singled out. It concerns the concept of traditional geography („old geography“) with the stress on the regional geography, then the concept of „new geography“ and its spatial conception, and the period of humanistic geography.
