Sažetak
The volume examines the Italian minority of western Slavonia, reconstructing its historical
origins and the emigration from Veneto and Friuli beginning in the 1880s. Central
to the study is the “Italian Idiom of Western Slavonia” (IISO), described as a minority
linguistic variety undergoing severe decline and characterized by asymmetric bilingualism
and language erosion. The work concludes with a reflection on the need to safeguard
and revitalize this linguistic and cultural heritage.
