Abstract
Applicative properties of diesel fuel depend on the composition ratio between saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons. Legal regulations dictate that the share of aromatic hydrocarbons be reduced, and especially that of the policyclic hydrocarbons. Determination of individual components from the group of aromatics is a complex task which is why the analyses are reduced to the determination of group aromatics composition. Under group composition we refer to the share of mono aromatics, di aromatics and three and over aromatics, the sum of di and three and over aromatics being called polycyclic aromatics.
One of the most commonly used methods for the said determination is the high efficiency liquid chromatography of normal phases with a constant composition of the mobile phase and modified silica column (amino silica or amino/cyano silica). The method separates groups of hydrocarbons according to polarity i.e. the number of aromatic rings, so that the order of eluation using the said method is as follows: saturated, mono aromatic, di aromatic and three and more aromatic hydrocarbons. Detection of the said fractions is enabled using the refractive index detector (RI). The paper presents the results obtained on 10 samples of diesel fuel and the share of polyciclic hydrocarbons ranges in the area up to 6.5% (m/m).
