Sažetak
The aim of the study was to measure the circulation rate in external carotid artery, facial artery and maxillary artery, with the analysis of frequency spectrum of the reflected ultrasonic wave and calculation of standard circulation rate as an objective parameter of the physiologic state of circulation in these arteries. In 30 subjects free of orthodontic anomalies, circulation rate and pulsatility index were measured in the neck and face arteries bilaterally by a computerized ultrasonic system, using a continuous ultrasonic wave, with a 4 MHz frequency probe. As, to the best of our knowledge, there is no data on the circulation rate in these arteries, we developed our own approach to the assessment of blood circulation, following a specially designed
protocol. Maximal circulation rates in the systole and pulsatility index
were evaluated by the analysis of the frequency spectrum of the reflected ultrasonic wave for the left and right external carotid arteries, facial arteries and maxillary arteries. Results were processed by current statistical models. The values of maximal circulation rate and pulsatility index did not show any statistically significant sex differences or left-to- -right side asymmetry.
