Sažetak
Cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of the samarium cobalt alloys were studied on an eukaryotic indicator organism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae D7 in an in vitro system and by a micronucleus test on rat bone marrow in an in vivo system. Alloys were incubated in a 0.01 M phosphate buffer at 37°C for 48 hours. Cells from exponential and early stationary phases of growth were separately incubated in the buffer at 37°C for 2 hours in aerobic conditions. After treatment, cells were washed and resuspended in the buffer, seeded on solid nutritive medium for survival assessment, and on selective medium for evaluation of the frequency of mutation. For micronucleus test analysis, rats were twice intraperitoneally injected with 2 ml of the buffer previously incubated with the alloy. Animals were sacrificed after 24 hours. Results obtained suggested the alloys, used as a tool of retention in mobile prosthetics, to elicit no cytotoxic effects, whereas genotoxic effects were within the allowed limits of experimental error.
