Sažetak
Testing of the efficacy of the tooth pastes »Binaca«, »Higia«, »Kalodont Extra« and »Signal« was carried out by means of the plaque and gingival index. The experiment was carried out in 5 groups of students. Every group numbered 11 students. The groups were given the following tooth pastes: Group A — »Signal«; group B —- »Higia«; group C -— »Binaca«; group D — »Kalodont Extra«; group E — no tooth paste at all.The students brushed their teeth after the modified Stillman method. The plaque index showed the most efficacious to be the »Signal« tooth paste because a significant difference was seen in comparison with the group using no tooth paste, while no significant difference was seen in comparison with the groups using »Higia«, »Binaca«, or »Kalodont Extra«. The gingival index gave a statistically significant difference during the last examination in relation to the first examination in all of our groups, while no significant difference was seen between the individual groups using different tooth pastes at the time of the last examination. This work is of practical and instructive value because it taught the students to apply a method of cleaning theiir teeth and personally motivated them by tangible arguments in favour of regular cleaning of the teeth. Thus in a year or two when they start practicing on their own, the students will possibly use more persuasion when they recommend the application and underline the benefit of oral hygiene.
