Sažetak

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a valuable source for promoting educational methods for the improvement of the human person. Through their education and formation, the Salesians contribute to combatting inhuman behaviour, prejuiduce and human rights violations, especially that which is directed towards youth. Unfortunately, while there is much talk about rights, in many countries the rights of many people continue to be violated even today. The author reminds us of the weakness and difficulties of modern western culture, the crisis of subjectivism, the perspective of ideals, values and motivations and the danger of excluding "the other" from personal testimony. Thus, human rights represent a cultural challenge and invitation to build a culture of social justice and solidarity. At the beginning of the 21st century we are witnesses to the ambivalence of globalization, the exaltation of what is trendy and a crisis of true values. Virtual reality and the age of quick information are not only an advantage but they also pose a threat to losing a sense of reality and an absolutization of subjective thinking and acting. Contemporary pedagogy and the Catholic Church recommend the formation of a critical attitude, freedom, responsibility and solidarity. The author reminds us that the significance and possibilities of don Bosco's educational system in the 21st century should expand to incorporate not only evangelization, catechesis and networking, but also the marginalized.
