Sažetak

Increased life expectancy and modern lifestyle lead to a higher incidence of peripheral arterial problems. Ischemic limb lesions occur as a result of changes in the arterial system. These lesions may occur due to changes in the structure of blood vessels, acute obstruction due to embolism secondary to arterial thrombosis, or chronic progression of atherosclerotic disease including involvement of a greater part of the arterial system to microcirculation, and consequential manifestation on the skin. Also signiicant are changes in the arteries due to vasospastic diseases of the arterial system. A common feature is that they ultimately lead to damage to the extremities in the form of rest pain, creating dificult to treat ulceration and gangrene with mutilating amputations. Minimal standard of the good medicine practice, as well as due knowledge of extremity ischemia make family doctors and others in primary medicine care a good patient selection. furthermore, only simple history taking and examination procedures in primary care can easily and effectively reveal hidden or asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease.
