Sažetak
Muscle size changes across the human lifespan, initially showing rapid increases due to grow and later gradual decreases due to aging. There are same changes in muscle mass and performance with aging. Aged skeletal muscles, particulary type II muscle fibers, are more susceptible than younger ones to muscle damage and display an impaired regenerative capacity. A number of factors have been proposed as contributing to age related loss of skeletal muscle and its contractility. This disease state termed sarcopenia.
