Work therapy in patients with chronic pain with special reference to lower-back pain

Sažetak
Lower-back pain is one of the most common health problems of our time. Over 60% of the population at some point in their lives reports having sensed this type of pain. Reduced functioning that occurs as a result of back pain is significantly increased and is now one of the most common causes of disability in adults. It is particularly important to note that the increasing number of people is developing chronic forms of disability. According to the Eurobarometer survey "Health in the European Union" from 2007, almost one third of respondents felt the muscle – bone pain which has undermined the quality of their everyday life. Occupational therapy process involves occupational therapy assessment, occupational therapy intervention and evaluation which is focused on the biopsychosocial model and occupational therapy programs for treating pain and back pain. Lower-back pain is a public health problem that imposes a huge economic burden. Disability as a result of pain has a devastating impact on the individual and the quality of everyday life.
