Democratisation in Croatia - A Look From the Outside
Davor Jakopović
Sažetak
The end of cold war brought a change in political and economic systems for all Central and Eastern European governments. Croatia’s transformation into a democratic country met with a series of obstacles, which is why the process is still ongoing. Besides the political and economic changes, Croatia also faced the consequences of the war against Serbia, which cannot excuse miserable achievements in the democratisation process. I stress the nonexistence of a legal state and the insufficient stability of state institutions as primary problems. Al long as the political elite does not realise that stable institutions should take priority before staying in power, Croatia will live through several setbacks in the democratisation process.
