Sažetak
Cerebral palsy is the most common cause of severe neuromotor disabilities in childhood, representing a group of disorders which involve impairment of movement and posture and of motor function. It is permanent but not unchanging, caused by non-progressive interference/lesions/abnormality in developing/immature brain.
The aim of this study was to demonstrate the importance of physiotherapy in children with cerebral palsy, with focus on bilateral spastic type of cerebral palsy. In physiotherapy assessment there are many specific tests and measurements used in practice. Based on the assessment, the further course of treatment is planned individually for each child. Some of the most common methods of intervention are: neurodevelopmental therapy according to the Bobath concept and the Vojta principle. For the purpose of this study, online sources and databases were searched for insight into the effectiveness of physiotherapy in children with spastic bilateral type of CP. According to SCPE (Surveillance of Cerebral Palsy in Europe), classification of cerebral palsy is based on neurological symptoms. Cerebral palsy is divided into three subtypes: spastic, dyskinetic and ataxic.
The paper also presents the course of physiotherapy assessment and intervention in children with spastic bilateral type of cerebral palsy trough the case study of a child with spastic bilateral type of cerebral palsy, at the age of 5. Physiotherapy procedures were performed over a period of two weeks in the Special Hospital for Children with Neurodevelopmental and Motor Disorders Goljak, in the city of Zagreb, Croatia. The objective part of the physiotherapy assessment was dominantly based on the GMFM-66 test. Based on these results, a treatment plan and program for this child were carried out over a period of two weeks.
