Using the Angoff method to set cutoff scores on Business informatics examinations in entrepreneurship education

Sažetak

Business informatics knowledge and skills are an important part of the modern entrepreneurship curriculum. The distinction between those students who have the required knowledge and skills and those students who are not competent is an important part of the education process. In this paper, the establishment of a credible, trustworthy and defensible passing score for Business Informatics exams is researched and the obtained results are compared to the existing threshold of 50% in Business Informatics at Vern' University. The existing passing score of 50 % was arbitrarily determined several years ago. After careful examination of all the existing methods for setting the cutoff score, the Angoff Method was selected as the most suitable one. After presenting the method to a panel of 6 expert judges, they conducted the Angoff Method on a sample of 30 test items. The expert judges have various working experience, education level and teaching position at Vern' University. There is no golden rule for setting the passing score in exams, but the choice of the cutoff score should be defensible, based on scientific methodology and verifiable. The results of this study show that the passing score for Business Informatics should be raised from an arbitrary 50 % to 60 %.
