Sažetak

The aim of this study was to examine eating disorder symptomatology and its relationship with cognitive eating patterns, body
mass index (BMI) and sex in Croatian adolescents. This study included 649 participants, of which 50.4% were boys. All of the
participants were first-grade high school students with ages ranging from 14 to 16.5 years who completed the questionnaires
in the medical centre during their regular health examination. Female adolescents showed more eating disorder symptoms
and more frequent use of cognitive eating patterns than male adolescents. Additionally, adolescents with a higher BMI also
reported more eating disorder symptoms and cognitive restraint. In conclusion, cognitive eating patterns and associated eating
disorder psychopathology are relevant features in Croatian adolescents, mainly among female subjects with a higher BMI.
