Sažetak
This paper explains why the Kotlin programming language was developed by the JetBrains company. It also contains a short comparison of Kotlin with the programming language Java. Kotlin is noticeably simpler than Java in sintax. This increases the speed of application development. Also, the paper shows the increasing popularity of the Kotlin programming language through analysis of Google searches for programming languages and by showing results from a Stack Overflow survey of the fondness of programmers for different programming languages. Kotlin is currently mostly used for development of Android applications, For this usage, it surpassed the Java programming language. Kotlin is currently being expanded for usage in multiplatform development. There is also a plan for it to be expanded more in the field of data science. Because of the increasing demand for developers with knowledge of the Kotlin programming language, the wages for Kotlin developers are among the highest developer wages.
