Sažetak
In the fifth report of the Croatian Birds Rarities Committee, newly
accepted records of rare bird taxa submitted to the committee between
2017 and 2024 are reported. Twelve species, including two treated as
possible or certain escapees from captivity, plus one subspecies and one
hybrid, have been observed in Croatia for the first time. Six species have
been recorded for the first time since 1950, leading to their reclassification
from category B to category A. The list of birds of Croatia now
includes 405 species in categories A, B, and C plus six subspecies. Additionally,
five species are listed in category C E, two in category D, and
eleven in category E (escapees), which are not included in the official list
of birds of Croatia. Eight species have been removed from the rare birds
list due to the increasing number of observations. The list of rare bird
taxa now includes 80 species, with five in category C E, one in category
C, two in category D, and five subspecies. Four new breeding species
in Croatia have been accepted during this period, along with one additional
species that bred for the first time after being declared extinct.
