Sažetak

Without underrating the importance of integral and systematic research of numerous phenomena relating to the Romani, such as migrations, language, national culture and art, social and economic organization, beliefs..., it is the area of education that presents a certain synthesis of differences between the attendants and integration in the implementation. Due to their broad presence and transnational identity, the Romani in Croatia (since their arrival to Dubrovnik in 1362) have formed a separate historical autochthonous minority. Although there are few facts and information on the beginnings of an organized systematic approach to education of Romani children in Croatia, some examples from the past (Podravina-Pitomača, Međimurje) indicate a correlation between the degree of integration of the Romani and their attitude toward school. In addition to improvement of the socioeconomic position, it is crucial for the Romani national community in Croatia to become included in all segments of the society, but also to preserve their culture, tradition and lifestyle, where the education of Romani children is an essential factor.
