Sažetak

The deep-sea noise as the ambient sea noise may be said to be the noise of the sea itself. It is a stochastic process. Its parameters are statistical means obtained during a long time of observation. The deep-sea ambient noise is supposed to be a stationary ergodic stochastic process with the Gaussian distribution. The stationarity and Gaussian approximation of the noise is good enough over short time periods. Its power spectral density is a deterministic function versus frequency. The article deals with frequency band from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The most probable sources of noise in this frequency interval are distant ship traffic and roughness of the sea surface or the sea-state. A mathematical model of the average power spectral density level of the deep-sea ambient noise in the frequency interval from 20 Hz to 20 kHz is derived. Variance and correlation function are calculated and the ergodic hypothesis of the deep-sea ambient noise is verified on the basis of mathematical model.
