Praxis “after Virtue”. Different Readings of Aristotle: Alasdair MacIntyre and Hannah Arendt

Sažetak
The article thematizes political-ethical topics of two contemporary philosophers, Alasdair MacIntyre and Hannah Arendt, through peripatetic discourse. MacIntyre in After Virtue recreates a teleological framework that will not be dependent on Aristotle’s metaphysical biology or specifically Christian frames; he understands it as formal social teleology. He associates philosophy with social and political moments, which supposes overcoming the gulfs between theoretical and practical domains as well. Purposes and goods are not determined eternally, but these transform in the motion of action. Concerning Arendt, it is about realizing limitations of Aristotle’s concept of praxis and also some internal contradictions. Refining the term of practice from any instrumentalization and from postulating reign as a necessity in politics are likewise important affairs. Liberty is the key notion in her political philosophy.
