Sažetak

The article deals with basic provisions on compensation for oil pollution damage of the 1969 Civil Liability Convention and the 1971 Fund Convention, as well as amendments made by Protocols of 1976, 1984 and 1992.
The author discusses the principle amendments contained in the 1992 Protocols and comes to the conclusion that the Republic of Croatia must take steps to harmonize divergent interests - the development of oil industry and the development od tourism - by ratifying the 1992 Protocols for the purpose of providing adequate compensation for oil pollution damage resulting from spills of persistent oil in cases of major tanker incidents in the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea.
