Sažetak

This paper presents reflections on supervision in the area of child protection in the context of modern definitions, approaches and models of supervision in psychosocial work. The need for (re)conceptualization of supervision in the area of child welfare has been increasingly pronounced during the last 15 years and it resulted in the development of new models of supervisory work worldwide. The most important models are described, such as the New Zealand model of group consultative supervision, the Australian integrated model of supervision in child welfare, the Canadian model of clinical supervision in cases of child protection and the American integrated model of supervision of child welfare. The analysis shows that they have the following in common: (1) there is a strong commitment for using supervision by the professionals who work in the area of protection of child welfare in numerous countries, (2) supervision is one of the key tools in achieving quality services for the children and families at risk, and (3) improving knowledge and empowering professionals/helpers is a key component of supervisory work. Starting from the modern international trends, but primarily from the need of our social welfare system to advance supervision in this area, this paper for the first time provides a comprehensive review of the development of the model of method supervision in the protection of child welfare. Since experience has shown that the model of method supervision exceeds supervision in the protection of child welfare and has characteristics of a circular generic model of supervision, basic principles of this model that can be applied in other areas of conducting psychosocial interventions are described.
