Toward a validation of two Croatian instruments measuring emotional intelligence

Sažetak

The aim of this study was to provide new information on the diagnostic and predictive validity of two Croatian instruments for measuring emotional intelligence: Emotional Analysis Test (Kulenović, 2000) and Emotional Competence Questionnaire (Takšić, 2000). Participants (N=197) were students of 4 different Zagreb university groups: mechanical engineering, socijal work, psychology and agriculture. The results revealed significant positive correlations between Emotional Analysis Test and two reasoning tests. The total score in Emotional Competence Questionnaire was not found to be correlated with the results of the Reasoning Test, nor with the results in Emotional Analysis Test. A significant correlation was found between the results in Emotional Analysis Test and academic achievement, and this correlation holds even when partializing for the Reasoning Test score. As hypothesized, differences in mean Emotional Analysis Test scores were found between different university groups. Psychology and social work students scored higher on this EI measure.
