Sažetak

By his nature, Krleža is a playwright. Dramas are a significant
part of his literarv work. Here, from literarv-theological viewpoint, we
are taking a look at the first cycle of his dramaturgy, at his poetical
and svmbolical legends, i.e. at the three most provocative: The
Legend, Michelangelo Buonarroti and Christopher Columbus. They are ali literary and thematicalh/ indicative. They are avantgarde in
their own way and full of experiments in terms of contents and
drama. The author starts from a thesis that man was not created by
God, but God by man. In his respect, he suggest that new man has to
free himself from the traditional idea of God and take fate into his
own hands.
This was a real metaphysical rebellion. Ali the more interesting,
he took Christ, Michelangelo and Columbus for his heroes to be the
archetypes or symbols of his investigations. He models them literary
to his own liking. Of these historical holders of religious, artistic and
discovery mission, he creates evolutionary giants and imaginary
unbelievers who should become the standards for new generations.
He introduces doubts and anxieties into them, motivates challenging
conflicts and offers various existential and religious turns of events.
