CARACTERISTICS OF BLOOD BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS IN BOSNIA AND HERCEGOVINA’S PRAMENKA BREED SHEEP

Sažetak
Pramenka is a sheep of combined properties, modest in feeding, very resilient and well adapted to our conditions, but with weak productive features since it is raised in the hilly-mountainous conditions, inconvenient for intensive feed production due to which, the feeding is often insufficient in quality and quantity. The level of their production points to the adequacy of feeding but also to their metabolic status which is evaluated by determining the bio-chemical parameters of blood. Bio-chemical parameters of blood can point to energetic, protein and mineral supply of organism, and at the same time to the health status of an animal. Therefore, we proceeded with testing of a large spectrum of bio-chemical parameters in the sheep blood from two localities, Livno and Travnik, in the summer period when the animals were grazing the grass of characteristic botanical composition for the indicated areas, and all with the aim of comparing data from two different regions. Blood was taken from v.jugularis and in the sera the following bio-chemical parameters were determined: glucose, Mg, Ca, total protein, LDH, GGT, AST, ALT, ALKP, cholesterol, triglycerides, urea and albumins. The importance of research is in the fact that by studying the metabolic system, the knowledge on interaction of the local breed and metabolism of the sheep is improved in the function of sustainability of the autochthonous breeds.
