SAFETY AND PROTECTION FACTORS IN POSTAL TRAFFIC

Sažetak
Safety and protection of postal items, facilities, equipment and employees directly involved in the complex process of postal delivery (reception, transport and delivery) constitute a key factor in the competitiveness of postal, currier and other companies with business in delivery. In the times of many different substitutes used in the delivery of goods and messages, safety and protection are of paramount importance when selecting the operator for billions of senders each day. Thus postal service and other postal service companies need to invest large amounts of resources in their operation for ever-better results.
The paper examines the issue of safety and protection in postal service aiming to define the current situation and propose the most suitable solutions for their improvement. Identified are the safety and protection problems plaguing the transport of postal deliveries in all types of traffic (road, rail, sea and air). The subject matter has only slightly been discussed in domestic professional literature and requires a more thorough investigation.
An important role is to be played by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a special agency of the UN and a cover organisation for 191 postal administrations all over the world. As part of the POC (Post Office Council) it has formed a Postal Safety Group (PSG) which through its programs increases competitiveness on the world postal market through application of effective safety measures by cooperation with important international institutions such as the INTERPOL, World Health Organisation (WHO), UN International Drug and Crime Prevention Office (UNIDCP) and others.
