From Terroir to Trust: Generation Z, English for Specific Purposes, and Croatian Food Heritage—Part One

Abstract

This article examines how two first-year Croatian cohorts, Biology and FABSO, conceptualize geographical indications and translate food heritage into English public discourses. Drawing on surveys and open responses, it identifies strong engagement with traditional products, confidence in EU protected-origin labels, and recurrent appeals to authenticity, traceability, quality, and locality. Biology students report higher English-language proficiency, while FABSO students show greater familiarity with EU quality schemes. Both cohorts favor digital, packaging-centered narration. The study concludes that instruction should combine precise terminology, genre awareness, and ethical representation.
