Sažetak

The development of teachers' didactic competences in the
contemporary learning and teaching paradigm is crucial for the
future of education. The main objective of this study is to investigate
the relationship between teachers' professional motivation
and their didactic competences, with teachers' beliefs about the
effectiveness of teaching playing a mediating role. In addition,
the influence of digital competences and willingness to apply
reflective practice is examined. The research was conducted on a
sample of 459 teachers in Croatia. The data was analysed using
PLS-SEM. The results indicate that teachers' job as 1st choice of
career impacts motivation, while motivation has a direct
influence only on the didactic competence of planning. The
mediating role of teachers' beliefs in the relationship between
motivation and didactic competences is suggested, but requires
further examination. The moderating role of digital competences
is confirmed only for the relationship between beliefs and
didactic competence managing the lesson. Positive effects of
willingness for reflective practice on all proposed didactic
competences is confirmed. Limitations and recommendations for
future research are provided. The results contribute to the
development of teachers' didactic competences for designing
contemporary educational paradigms in teaching practice.
