Sažetak

This study examines the impact of formal and informal internal communication on the perceived organisational climate among employees in medium-sized companies in the business sector. Particular attention is paid to distinguishing between positive experiences with informal communication and its dysfunctional aspects, and their impact on the organisational climate. The empirical study is based on a quantitative approach and an analysis of structural relationships between constructs using structural equation modelling (SEM) on a sample of 300 employees. Organisational climate is treated as a second-order construct, encompassing motivation, organisational commitment, internal relations, and communication and information sharing. The results indicate that communication processes make a significant contribution to the formation of the perceived organisational climate. Formal communication has the strongest direct influence and emerges as an important organisational mechanism through which the effects of informal communication processes are transmitted to the broader perception of the organisational environment. The analysis also confirms that dysfunctional communication phenomena represent an important channel through which informal communication influences the organisational climate. The contribution of the research lies in the integrated treatment of formal and informal communication and in the separate incorporation of the functional and dysfunctional dimensions of informal communication into a unified structural model of organisational climate. In doing so, the research goes beyond simplistic approaches that treat informal communication as a uniform or inherently positive organisational phenomenon. This suggests that, in order to effectively shape the organisational climate, it is necessary to simultaneously encourage informal communication, take its dysfunctional effects into account, and appropriately channel these effects through formal communication structures.
