Sažetak
In the introductory part of the text the author will present the Print Collection and the circumstances under which it was founded. Following the introduction, the author will present the images of Diocletian’s palace that are stored in the Print Collection. Artists of various artistic sensibilities have used different techniques to
present the uniqueness of the palace. One of the first authors who used his drawings to promote the palace to a wider audience was Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. According to these drawings, a series of engravings was published in the form of a book, entitled Entwurf einer historischen Architektur („A Sketch of Historical Arhitecture“). This publication is extremely significant in terms of studying the history of architectural heritage. Regarding the works of other eminent European painters, architects and archeologists, the Print Collection also contains images of the palace published in the Ruins of the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian at Spalato in Dalmatia
by a Scottish architect, Robert Adam, Voyage pittoresque et historique de l’Istrie et Dalmatie by Lavallée, and the original drawings by Jan Batist van Moer. The Collection is exceptionally rich and diverse, and also contains about one hundred and fifty thousand postcards, including those depicting Diocletian’s palace.
