Sažetak

Although Scripture is among the foundations of Christianity and thus represents the basis for the fellowship of Christians, the topics on Scripture in Christian theology have been burdened by a series of controversial issues. This is especially related to Western Christian theology and the dialogue between Roman Catholics and Protestants respectively, where one of the most controversial issues related to Holy Scripture is the relationship between Scripture and Tradition. In this paper, the author seeks to present the historical genesis of that topic. She thus begins by studying the concept of Tradition in the period of Early Christianity, having particularly in mind the concept and significance of Oral Tradition as well as the process of transforming it into written form. She then considers the understanding of the relationship between Scripture and Tradition (which also exists in Church after the time of the fixing the written testimonies of first witnesses) during the Patristic time and the Middle Ages. At the same time the special attention is given to developments in the elaborating this issue in the Late middle Ages. The author’s attention is then concentrated to the debate on the relationship between Scripture and Tradition which developed during the time of Reformation and Catholic Renewal respectively. When it comes to the theology of the Reformation, the particular attention is here to be focused to the views of leading reformers as well as to the relevant expressions in the Lutheran confessions of faith. When the author considers Roman Catholic theology, she then presents and analyzes the teaching of the Council of Trent. A brief review was also given to the ecclesiological consequences of reformation and catholic understanding of the relationship between Scripture and Tradition. In the final part of her paper, the author directs her attention to the prospects of considering this issue in the modern era of ecumenism.
