Sažetak

The Port of Dubrovnik during its long history from antiquity to the present was functioning with ships from historic epochs entering it. To meet the needs of big sailing-ship era, such as gallery or karaka , the port was arranged in 1484 according to the design of Pasko Miličević, a famous Ragusan constructor. The most important object which was being built at that time was the seawall Kaše; it is also today, after more than 500 years in service. There are a number of thesis about building of the seawall and this article deals with some recent insights, but also with those not published up to the present day.
The reconstruction in the port happened not earlier than 19th century to meet the standards established by the steamships. Then the breakwater Porporela was being built and the coast in front of Big Arsenal and Fontika.
