CONSERVATION AND RESTAURATION WORK IN THE RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PORTRAIT GALLERY OF THE BISHOPS OF SENJ-MODRUŠ

Sažetak
The main task of conservation and restauration work in the re-establishment of the portrait gallery of the bishops of Senj-Modruš was to return or ensure both the stability and resistance of the material and the original pictorial contents. The aim has been fully achieved, and the results can be seen in the altered appearance of the majority of paintings that new fully correspond with their age. Lavers that had collected during the centuries, obscuring the original structure, have been removed. Defective paint coats have been repaired by minimal intervention, while especial attention has been paid of the application of protective coating. Without any doubt, this intervention has greatly en-chanced the value of the gallery, equally from the material the historical and the pistorial point of view.
