Sažetak

In intensive poultry production, due to the specific keeping of large number of animals placed in a relatively small area and rapid growth of chickens, it is difficulty to express species specific behavior, there is danger of the diseases appearance, which all disrupts their welfare. Therefore, in practice hygienic standards are applied which, during the production cycle, ensure optimal life conditions, and also prevent
the introduction and spread of pathogens. They include preventive measures, hygiene and sanitation practices, creating environmental microclimate conditions suitable to category of animals, health status monitoring and movement control. In this research microclimate indicators were measured, air was sampled in order to determine the number of microorganisms; swabs were taken from the exposed
surface. The behavior of animals was determined in the context of assessing their welfare. The measured microclimate indicators and hygienic quality of the air in the house for fattening chickens were in accordance with the recommended values for that category of poultry. Applied biosecurity measures on researched farm had their
justification in the achieved production results. Desired body weight was achieved in the fattening cycle, damages were significantly below technologically anticipated and chickens were at the end of the cycle in good health. In the early and midfattening period chickens behaved in accordance with the physiological patterns, while at the end of fattening difficulty movement was reported, there was no happy
scratching and dust bathing. The underlying cause may be a lack of free space, reduced litter quality and rapid growth. The results show that complying with prescribed hygiene standards on the broiler farm provides the conditions in which the majority of broilers during production cycle can manifest their species characteristic
behavior, as well as the achievement of the production targets, hygienically correct foodstuff of animal origin ensure.
