Sažetak

Gibberella zeae (Schw.) Petch., i. e. Fusarium graminearum Schw., and in recent time Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans in conidial stage, are the most wide-spread causes of head scob of wheat in Croatia (fusarium head blight, scab). The pathogen attacks wheat in two stages: primary and secondary infection. The secondary stage of infection is much more evident, because it affects the spikes. The fungus invades wheat spikes already in the heading stage, while at anthesis the attack is most dangerous. The occurrence of Fusarium spp. is favored by high temperatures (25-30 ᵒC), and with high relative air humidity (above 85%). There are several measures of Fusarium spp. of wheat, such as application of adequate crop rotation, or seed treatment. However, development of wheat cultivars resistant or tolerant to head bligh, represents the principal method of control against the disease has become increasingly evident from one year to another.
